Food Poisoning Symptoms

Food poisoning is any sickness caused by the intake of contaminated food.

Two types of foods poisoning can be observed, food poisoning caused by infectious agents and food poising due to toxic agents. First type is caused by presence of microorganisms called bacteria in our food which contaminate our body right after consumption. Meal intoxication, the second type,  is caused by intake of poisonous toxin inside the meals. These toxins are injected by microorganism like fungi, bacteria and algae. Toxic food poisoning could happen even if the microorganism that developed the toxin is not there or not in a position to trigger infection.

Although it is called food poisoning but it has no link with chemical or other natural poisons. Mostly, these circumstances are brought on by a range of pathogenic bacteria, viruses, or parasites that contaminate food items.

Food poisoning symptoms may depend upon degree of infection, type of microorganism which contaminated food and type of agent involved. Symptoms may appear within hours or after several days. Following are main symptoms and signs of food poisoning,

  1. Most common food poisoning symptom is Nausea. Nausea is feeling of discomfort in upper abdomen.  Serious food poisoning may result in vomiting.
  2. Food poisoning may result in Abdomen pain.
  3. Diarrhea is the probably most dangerous condition that my by be caused by food poisoning. Diarrhea causes loss of liquids from body. Diarrhea is one of the most common causes for children death in the world.
  4. In addition to above, fever, tiredness, headaches are also by products of food poisoning which are common food poisoning symptoms.

Food Poisoning Treatment

Usually body itself recovers after some time. But problem can take place in babies, old aged peoples because their immune system is weak. However, if you feel that you are affected with food poisoning, following tips are helpful for recovery.

  1. Take soft food during nausea and vomiting.
  2. Stay hydrated by taking drinks.
  3. Stay away from alcohol and such drinks.
  4. If you fell serious and think that you are suffering from food poisoning symptoms, please see you doctor. Your doctors may suggest antibiotic after few medical test.

How to Avoid Food Poisoning

  1. Clean your hands before preparing and eating food.
  2. Clean your hand after playing with pets, also pets should not be brought to kitchen.
  3. Properly cover-up you food items.
  4. Never use expired food stuff.
  5. Preserve food in proper temperature.
  6. Fruits and vegetable should be washed before use.
